Inhibition of invasive plant Mikania micrantha rapid growth by host-specific rust (Puccinia spegazzinii)

Abstract: Mikania micrantha Kunth is a fast-growing global invasive weed species that causes severe damage to natural ecosystems and very large economic losses of forest and crop production. Although Puccinia spegazzinii can effectively inhibit the growth of M. micrantha and is used as a biological control strain in many countries, the mechanism of inhibiting the growth in Mikania micrantha is not clear. Here, we used a combination of phenotypic, enzyme activity, transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches to study the re… Show more

“…One of the three candidate genes, Zm00001d043536, encodes the heat stress transcription factor c1-b of the HSF family. HSF transcription factors regulate the expression of abscisic acid (ABA) [37], jasmonic acid (JA) [38], indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) [38], and other plant hormones [40], mediating gene activation under heat or other stress conditions to enhance plant stress tolerance. Thirty HSF proteins have been identified in maize.…”

“…One of the three candidate genes, Zm00001d043536, encodes heat stress transcription factor c1-b of the HSF family. HSF transcription factors regulate the expression of abscisic acid (ABA) [36], jasmonic acid (JA) [37], indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), and other plant hormones [38] which mediate gene activation under heat or other stress conditions to enhance plant stress tolerance. Thirty HSF proteins have previously been identified in maize.…”
