Inhibition of mild steel corrosion in groundwater by pyrrole and thienylcarbonyl benzotriazoles

Abstract: The inhibition efficiency of Zn 2? , 3-phosphonopropionic acid (3-PPA), benzotriazole (BTA) and two synthesized benzotriazole derivatives namely 1-(2-pyrrole carbonyl) benzotriazole (PCBT) and 1-(2-thienylcarbonyl) benzotriazole (TCBT) were evaluated as inhibitors for the corrosion of mild steel in ground water. The inhibition efficiencies of PCBT and TCBT in combination with Zn 2? and 3-PPA were also investigated and the results were compared with BTA. In order to study the corrosion rate and inhibition effic… Show more

“…Heterocyclic organic compounds containing nitrogen, sulphur or oxygen atoms are often used to protect metals from corrosion. For the past few years, azoles have been intensively investigated as effective corrosion inhibitors [11][12][13][14][15][16][17] for various environments.…”

“…Such a barrier is readily formed by nitrogen‐containing heterocyclic molecules because of strong π‐interaction between the aromatic rings . Earlier studies claimed that the presence of cuprous oxide facilitates the initial physisorption of benzotriazole . According to our previous investigation, it is inferred that the benzotriazole derivatives get adsorbed on copper surface.…”

“…Several methods have been investigated and implemented to reduce the corrosion process and extend the lifetime of the metals/structures including painting, electroplating, coating, and cathodic protection [5][6][7][8][9]. The use of inhibitors has been found to be one of the best options available for the protection of metals against corrosion [10].…”
