Abstract: Contrary to differentiated cells, cancer cells predominantly convert glucose to lactate even under conditions of adequate oxygen supply (“Warburg effect”). The initial enzyme implicated in this route is hexokinase, which transforms D‐glucose into D‐glucose‐6‐phosphate.
