INHIBITIVE EFFECT OF Mussaenda frondosa LEAVES EXTRACT ON MILD STEEL CORROSION-STATISTICAL AND THEORETICAL VIEW

Abstract: The statistical and theoretical view on mild steel (MS) corrosion in a sulphuric acid medium in the presence of leaves extract of Mussaenda frondosa (MF) were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. The nature of the inhibitor was defined by the polarization studies. The semicircle curves observed in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicated that the corrosion of mild steel is controlled by the charge transfer process. The corrosion inhibition perfo… Show more

“…Corrosion inhibitors have been used to reduce metal corrosion in various industries and also there are many scientific pieces of evidence for the inhibitors which decrease corrosion on metals. 4,5,6,7,8 Among organic, inorganic, mixed and surfactant inhibitors, an essential corrosion-resistant device issurfactant. Surfactant molecules will form micelles and the hydrophobic effect enhances adsorption of the functional groups present in the surfactant molecule onto the metal surface and forming a protective layer even at low surfactant concentrations.…”

“…Mussaenda frondosa L. petals were extracted in methanol. The methanolic extract of the petals was analyzed using droplet counter-current chromatography to separate phytoconstituents such as rutin, quercetin, hyperin, sinapic acid, ferulic acid and stigluside 4 . Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus were all killed by Mussaenda frondosa Linn's petals, which were found to exhibit antibacterial activity against various other bacteria, including saccharomyces cerevisiae and ustilago mayadis 5 .…”

“…It is inferred from the plot that as the concentration of CQAE and CQEE increases phase angle increases which specifies the reduction in surface inhomogeneity. Also, a resistance towards corrosion rises as the concentration rises suggested reduced metal dissolution26 .…”
