Abstract:Rare earth dopants in crystals with long-lived, resolved hyperfine structure allow sharp, isolated spectral structures to be created via optical pumping. Here, we discuss a spectral preparation process that makes use of this property to create quantum memories where high efficiency, large bandwidth and long spin-state storage times are possible simultaneously. We then demonstrate the method using an atomic frequency comb delay-line protocol in 167 Er 3+ :Y2SiO5, showing the delay of 6 MHz bandwidth weak cohere… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
