Initiation of a Metal/Fluoropolymer Reactive Material Subjected to Dynamic Shear‐Compression Loading

Abstract: Structural Reactive Materials (RMs) are multi‐material composites that provide adequate structural strength and large exothermic yield. Combining the thermal energy output with kinetic energy, RMs fulfill a role in increasing the overall performance and energetic release of military weapon systems. The goal of this current research is to enhance the understanding of the thermomechanical conditions that are responsible for Al/PTFE RM ignition under dynamic loading. Two mechanisms of initiation commonly reported… Show more

“…As the stress on the inside of the sleeve is equal to that on the outside of the specimen, the σ normala ( t ) can be calculated by σ normala ( t ) = σ r ( t ) E 1 / E 2 ( 1 v 2 + ( 1 + a 2 / b 2 1 a 2 / b 2 + v 1 ) ) v 2 where v 1 is the Poisson ratio of the sleeve. As E 2 is numerically much considerable than E 1 , [ 16 ] the above equation can be simplified to σ a ( t ) = σ r ( t ) ( 1 v 2 ) / v 2 .…”
