Injection-Site Cutaneous Pseudolymphoma Induced by a GM-CSF–Producing Tumor Cell Vaccine

Abstract: dermis while minimizing irradiation of deeper tissue. Despite the potential benefit of symptom relief and improved quality of life, the use of ionizing radiation for ACH should be carefully balanced against the long-term risk of cancer at the site of administration, particularly in younger patients. 6 To our knowledge, this is the first case of ACH successfully treated with HDR brachytherapy. Further investigations using larger patient cohorts are needed to determine the reproducibility of our findings.

“…While the exact pathogenesis of the disease remains unclear, recent studies suggest that drugs responsible for causing CPL can weaken immune function by interfering with immunosurveillance leading to abnormal lymphocyte proliferation, increased suppressor T-cell activity and hypogammaglobulinaemia. [8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is now considered different from drug-induced CPL. Some features of DRESS syndrome are fever, haematological abnormalities (eosinophilia), systemic symptoms, lymphadenopathy and morbilliform eruption.…”

“…In most cases, aluminum hydroxide was present as an adjuvant [3,4,6], for which it has been suggested that it could have a causal role. However, there are cases in which this adjuvant was not present [7] Most CPL developed at the injection site of the vaccines tend to have a benign course, but, very rarely, they have evolved to lymphomas [8,9]; the causes were flu and anthrax vaccines and one of the patients had a fatal outcome [8].…”
