Abstract: This prospective study demonstrated that assigning shoes based on the shape of the plantar foot surface had little influence on injuries even after considering other injury risk factors.

“…10,24 The positive results for the standardized exercise program in 1 study 10 are consistent with the findings of this review (ie, strengthening and flexibility exercise of the quadriceps muscles could lead to reduction in incidence of PFPS). The positive effects of prevention programs for military recruits 10,24 and of treatment programs for the general population 8,38 suggest the effectiveness of such programs. These prevention programs should aim at high-risk groups, such as military recruits and athletes.…”

“…Motion control shoes are recommended for individuals with low-arches, stability shoes for individuals with normal-arches, and cushioning shoes for individuals with high-arches [8,9]. However, recent prospective studies have demonstrated that selecting a running shoe based on static plantar surface measures does not reduce injuries in recruits during basic training in the Air Force [1], Army [2], or Marine Corps [3]. In these studies, trained evaluators examined the plantar surface of the foot in contact with an acrylic surface and rated the foot as low, normal, or high arched.…”

“…Static, geometric measurements have previously been used in both clinical and research settings to describe and classify foot structure, but recent prospective studies have demonstrated that assigning running shoes based on such classifications does not reduce musculoskeletal injuries [1][2][3]. The use of geometric measurements during gait from a pedobarographic platform may provide clinicians and researchers valuable information about the geometry and alignment of the foot.…”

“…Provavelmente esta força resulta do padrão de marcha militar, com o pé atingindo o solo de forma breve e forte. Baseado nisso, estudo prospectivo realizado com soldados americanos em treinamento encontrou que tênis de corrida confeccionado de acordo com a forma dos pés dos soldados contribuíram para reduzir a ocorrência de lesões 29 .…”
