However, the opposite effect as found in this study may be partly explained by effective conservation strategies based on restocking natural systems with freshwater fishes, which typically involves either stock enhancement, which aims to maintain fish populations at a stable level, or multiple releases to increase both the number of recruits and the spawning biomass (Bai et al, ; Li, Liu, Wang, & Silva, ).
