“…There is a dearth of information concerning the impact of sexrelated issues on PsA, the epidemiological trends of which among sex-diverse populations have been and are still overlooked in the literature. Little is known about the effects of endocrine hormones on the development of PsA (67) and even less is known about the impact of hormone replacement therapy among transexual individuals (68,69). More studies need to focus on these aspects.…”

A recent systematic review of transgender patients with rheumatic disease analyzed 14 such patients, 13 of whom are included in our literature review and study [47 ▪ ]. With the seven additional patients we report our study likely is the largest collection of retrospective data currently available on this patient population.…”

“…A variety of rheumatic pathologies are known to have a strong immune mediated component, and sexual dimorphism occurs in innate and adaptive immunity and contributes to differences in the prevalence of rheumatic diseases ( 66 ). A recent review commented on the limited literature on arthritis among trans individuals but noted that, though the number of cases was only 14, eleven cases of such immune mediated disorders occur in trans women ( 67 ). In parallel with the functional significance of immune cells on pain mechanisms, there is a greater predisposition to chronic pain among individuals lacking a Y chromosome ( 68 , 69 ).…”
