Abstract:Electrochemical modification of the Ti surface to obtain TiO 2 nanotubes (NT-Ti) has been proposed to enhance osseointegration in medical applications. However, susceptibility to microbial adhesion, linked to biomaterial-associated infections, and the high TiO 2 band gap energy, which allows light absorption almost exclusively in the ultraviolet (UV) region, limit its applications. Modifying the TiO 2 semiconductor with metals such as Ag has been suggested both for antimicrobial purposes and for absorbing ligh… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
