Innovative Approach to the Integrated Use of Energy Resources of Underground Coal Gasification

Abstract: Topical issues concerning the low efficiency of underground coal mining from thin and very thin seams as well as the problems of reserves left in mine fields by the closed-down enterprises resulting in substantial coal reserve losses have been highlighted. Alternative use of the unextracted energy resources is their physical and chemical transformation with the change in aggregate state including the possibility to generate valuable chemical and energy products capable of substituting certain share of natural … Show more

“…For this very reason, the intensification of geological exploration work for all types of energy feedstock is undoubtedly relevant both for Ukraine and many other countries around the world [9,10]. An alternative way for obtaining especially valuable synthesis gas is the technology of underground gasification of coal [11][12][13], processing of biomass and industrial waste [14]. These technologies are an integral part of the additional energy sources diversification, which is of great importance for Ukraine.…”

“…Analytical engineering calculations and solutions allow for the assessment of the real coal and gas reserves, so necessary for the country (Singhal, 1985;Bustin, 1988;Maldynova et al, 2018). After all, when including the natural resource reserves on the coal mine balance sheet, where it is possible to justify mine development, and then work them out technically, ecologically and in a cost-effective way, the geomechanics of the seams and rock massifs faulting, the complexity of coal excavation and other associated minerals, including methane gas become irrelevant (Khomenko et al, 2018;Saik et al, 2018;Zhao,et al, 2019).…”

“…Another example of a technology that requires knowledge about the temperature field propagation is well underground coal gasification [14,15]. Knowing the rational parameters of the temperature field propagation in the rock massif, it is possible to characterize the rate of combustion face advance [16], the need to introduce a reverse operation mode [17,18], to determine the parameters of the heat and mass gasification balance [19].…”
