Innovative Design and Metrological Approaches to Smart Lighting

Abstract: Currently Smart Lighting is mostly oriented toward energy savings and road luminance control to acknowledge actual maintenance, weather and traffic conditions, with the target to satisfy drivers visual needs. Alternative applications of smart lighting are toward city beautification and do not have normative constraints toward users safety and visibility as instead are required for road lighting. The paper present two case study of smart lighting systems for C lighting class road, outcome of a project set up by… Show more

“…Both in research and industry, this modern technology is examined, and products are designed to create energy savings and at the same time, satisfy human needs primarily regarding safety and visibility. Currently smart lighting is mostly directed towards the large potential of energy savings for road lighting (Valpreda, 2019), as well as initiatives like dynamic street lighting, which adapt to the presence of pedestrians (Haans, 2012). Further knowledge on how lighting and darkness aff ects human experience of architectural and social urban context, could lead to smart lighting initiatives where both atmosphere and safety is prioritized in relation to a specifi c context.…”
