Inside and outside stories of black-branes in anti de Sitter space

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the dynamics inside and outside of black-branes in anti de Sitter space by numerical simulations using double-null formalism. We prepare a charged planar matter shell which, due to a negative cosmological constant, collapses and dynamically forms a black-brane with an apparent horizon, a singularity and a Cauchy horizon. The gravitational collapse cannot form a naked overcharged black-brane and hence weak cosmic censorship is safe. Although mass inflation occurs, the effect is muc… Show more

“…The results presented here are very similar to those presented in [57] which is not surprising, since the code in that paper and this one are essentially identical. For this reason we refer to that paper and references therein (especially, [47][48][49]), for further details of the numerical schemes and other details related to the design of the code.…”

“…where Equations (3.31) and (3.39) are evolution equations for α ,uv , r ,uv , Φ ,uv and s ,uv , which can be solved with the same integration scheme used in the authors' previous papers [47][48][49]57]. The gauge field a can be evolved using the same numerical scheme via Equation (3.38) or we can evolve a and q via Equations (3.34) and (3.35).…”

“…Double-null coordinates are widely used in numerical analyses of spherically symmetric spacetimes [15,16,17,18,19,20]. The choice of double-null coordinates has several advantages: It leads to relatively simple field equations, it allows convenient coverage of globally-hyperbolic charts, and simplifies the determination of the causal structure.…”

“…The scheme employed in the numerical simulations was described in detail in [69][70][71][89][90][91][92][93]. The initial conditions were imposed on a set of dynamical variables (α, h, d, r, f , g, Φ, W , Z, s, w, z) on two null u = const.…”
