Insight at Rockbottom

Abstract

I approach this and philosophical questions in general, as an educationalist with a long-standing interest in meta-reflection and many years of trying to apply this in the fields of philosophy of learning, applied epistemology and philosophical theology. It has always been my core interest and intention to inform practice. I am now in the early stages of preparing a publication in the context of phenomenological-hermeneutic research, using case studies as starting point. From the investigation questions regarding Lonergan's position arise: • some details of his emphasis on rational enquiry as gateway to transcendence; (the case studies seem to suggest a slightly more complex picture), • the pure desire to know as aiming for being as content and • the transforming self-appropriation, through attentiveness, • self-appropriation beyond 'being pulled out of ourselves' (Morelli 597) • a possible non-theistic outlook as component of universal viewpoint.
