Insight into the Epidemiology and Evolutionary History of Novel Goose Astrovirus-Associated Gout in Goslings in Southern China

Abstract: A novel gout disease, characterized by visceral urate deposition with high-mortality, with outbreaks in goslings in China since 2016 was caused by a novel goose astrovirus (GoAstV) and resulted in serious economic loss. However, the epidemiology and variation of the GoAstV in goslings in southern China and its evolutionary history as well as the classification of the GoAstV are unclear. In the present study, systematic molecular epidemiology, and phylogenetic analyses of the GoAstV were conducted to address th… Show more

“…Transmission electron microscopy shows a star-like protrusion on its surface ( Shen et al, 2022 ). The genome of goose astrovirus consists of a 5′-untranslated region (5′ -UTR), three open reading frames (ORF1a, ORF1b and ORF2), 3′-untranslated region (3’-UTR) and poly (A) Tail ( Fu et al, 2022 ). The length of goose astrovirus genome varies by species.…”

“…In accordance with this viral classification criterion, GAstV can be divided into two distinct genotypes: GAstV genotype-1 and GAstV genotype-2. Moreover, there are significant differences in strains characteristics between these two genotypes (Niu et al, 2018;Fu et al, 2022).…”
