“…These reductions could be attributed to the increased lipid peroxidation since Na+ /K+ -ATPase is lipid dependent and has a high affinity for the SH group and Mg2 + -ATPase activity is sensitive to lipid peroxidation [66] . In addition, Miltonprabu et al [66] noted that Na+ /K+ -ATPase inhibition could lead to a decrease in sodium efflux that disrupts membrane permeability, a condition that may lead to the leakage of Ca2 + ions into the cytoplasm and consequently reduce the Ca2 +ATPase activity in the membrane as previously suggested [42] , [43] .…”

“…The level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the brain was determined according to the protocol described in P é rez-Severiano et al [41] and as modified [42] , [43] . The protocol is based on the incubation of 100 μl of brain aliquots with 5 μl of 2′,7′-dichloro-dihydro fluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) at 37 °C for 60 min.…”

“…However, previous studies reported gasoline‐induced hepatotoxicity, which manifested as elevated liver oxidative stress, inflammatory, and fibrotic markers along with decreased antioxidants in male albino rats after 10 weeks of exposure to gasoline (Abdrabouh, 2019). In addition, augmented reactive oxygen species (ROS) production as well as alteration in the activity of the liver enzymes, mixed function oxidase, and membrane bound ATPase were noted in 10‐week GE rats (Owagboriaye et al, 2021). Therefore, the unchanged expression of inflammatory cytokines in the liver of GE mice compared to CONs that we report in our study could be mainly attributed to the shorter gasoline exposure (1.5 h a day and thus for 5 days per week over 7 consecutive weeks) that was sufficient to induce a well‐established inflammation in the lungs in contrast to a mild inflammation in the liver.…”

“…The level of ROS in the testicular tissue was determined by incubating 100 μL of an aliquot from testicular homogenate with 5 μL 2′,7′-dichloro-dihydro fluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) at 37°C for 60 min as previously described in Pérez-Severiano et al (2004) and Owagboriaye et al (2021) , Owagboriaye et al (2022) . The thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) assay described in Okhawa et al (1979) , which involves the measurement of malondialdehyde (MDA) was employed for the determination of lipid peroxidation.…”
