Insights into the Uses of Traditional Plants for Diabetes Nephropathy: A Review

Abstract: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a serious kidney illness characterized by proteinuria, glomerular enlargement, reduced glomerular filtration, and renal fibrosis. DN is the most common cause of end-stage kidney disease, accounting for nearly one-third of all cases of diabetes worldwide. Hyperglycemia is a major factor in the onset and progression of diabetic nephropathy. Many contemporary medicines are derived from plants since they have therapeutic properties and are relatively free of adverse effects. Glycosides… Show more

“…Scientific reports have proven the pharmacological effects of ginger as antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory activities [29,31,32]. In addition to helping treat and prevent arthritis, it has hepatoprotective and nephroprotective effects [33][34][35]. The propensity of ginger extract to facilitate the synthesis of metal nanoparticles was previously reported for copper [36], silver [37], and gold [38].…”

“…Thus, the most effective and simple way to prevent these complications seems to be restoring postprandial blood glucose levels to normal levels within several hours after each meal. Biofactors derived from edible sources such as phytochemicals and zoochemicals [4][5][6][7] seem to be excellent candidates from the viewpoint of safety, as well as their antihyperglycemic effect, because they have a long history of ingestion.…”
