“…One BCD was the ADHEAR device (MED-EL, Innsbruck, Austria), where the transducer is glue-attached without pressure using an acrylic plate. The ADHEARs were also applied bilaterally by Ren et al (2021) [28]. The audio frequency range is from 0.25 kHz to 8 kHz and signal processing occurs with automatic adaptive directional microphones (DMs) [32].…”

“…From measurement of ITD and ILD with a self-recording apparatus, Kaga (1992) [55] showed that the ability to localize sound sources rapidly developed between the ages of 5 and 6 years. In addition, for children with bilateral congenital microtia, Ren et al (2021) [28] reported that the improvement in sound localization was also negatively related to the malformation degree of the patient's head. Apart from this, the ability of sound localization can improve with training.…”

“…Its causative factors are mostly related to viral infections, medications, and preeclampsia in women in early pregnancy [ 5 ]. Microtia is not only a cosmetic and appearance defect but also seriously affects the development of the patient's physical and mental health [ 6 ]. Most patients begin noticing their childhood physical defects, leading to dissatisfaction with their body image.…”

“…A study compared the average daily wearing time of conventional BCHAs (headband and softband) with an adhesive BCHA and reported an improved median wearing time in the adhesive adapter group compared with that of the conventional BCHA group (8.1 vs. 4.3 h) [Dahm et al, 2019]. Regarding audiological outcomes, some researchers have argued that there is no statistical difference between conventional and adhesive BCHAs [Dahm et al, 2018, Gawliczek et al, 2018, Dahm et al, 2019, Skarzynski et al, 2019, Favoreel et al, 2020, Kuthubutheen et al, 2020, Ren et al, 2021. However, a study on adhesive BCHAs revealed no significant improvement in speech recognition abilities under noisy conditions in patients with SSD [Mertens et al, 2018], whereas studies in other settings with the same test situations reported obvious benefits for patients aided with a softband BCHA [Peters et al, 2021].…”
