Abstract:The theory of constructing instantaneous equilibrium (ieq) transition under arbitrary timedependent temperature and potential variation for a Brownian particle is developed. It is shown that it is essential to consider the underdamped dynamics for temperature-changing transitions. The ieq is maintained by a time-dependent auxiliary position and momentum potential, which can be calculated for given time-dependent transition protocols. Explicit analytic results are derived for the work and heat statistics, energy… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
