“…Compared to our previous study in which we investigated (by immunoperoxidase) staining detection of insulin in the pancreas 13, the present study is a quantitative analysis of the insulin content in the NOD pancreas, which offers a better picture of the real amount of insulin that is retained in the pancreas. In another study, Tasaka et al 14 measured the amount of insulin, glucagon and somatostatin in the pancreas of NOD mice, but not longitudinally, and the results were compared to those of normal ICR‐strain mice. The group found that in the pancreas of NOD mice with fasting plasma glucose less than 140 mg/dL, the insulin content of the male mice was similar to that of the normal control ICR‐strain mice, but in female mice with fasting plasma glucose more than 201 mg/dL, the insulin content was significantly decreased.…”
