INTEGRAL: ICT-Platform Based Distributed Control in Electricity Grids with a Large Share of Distributed Energy Resources and Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract: Abstract. The European project INTEGRAL aims to build and demonstrate an industry-quality reference solution for DER aggregation-level control and coordination, based on commonly available ICT components, standards, and platforms. To achieve this, the Integrated ICT-platform based Distributed Control (IIDC) is introduced. The project includes also three field test site installations in the Netherlands, Spain and France, covering normal, critical and emergency grid conditions.

“…The process of price negotiation is managed by an auctioneer agent that finds the equilibrium price considering the bids collected from device agents [100]. The PowerMatcher tool has been used also in other projects such as INTEGRAL, which is aimed at the distributed control and coordination of aggregated DERs [101], SmartHouse/Smart-Grid focused on integration of smart houses into the smart grid [102], and EcoGrid targets the large-scale demonstration of the smart grid solution with 2000 residential consumers on the Danish island Bornholm [103].…”

“…1) Market Integration of DER: With the increasing usage of DERs the trading has to penetrate also the lower levels of the power system. New business models for generation, consumption, and balancing are needed to enable thousands, potentially millions of smaller participants, being it DERs, clusters of residential buildings, or even single residential homes to participate actively on the energy market [10], [51]- [53].…”
