In this study, a vehicle mounted antenna for RCIED jamming in the radio frequency band (30 MHz to 3 GHz) is proposed. The proposed antenna integrates a half‐bandwidth loop antenna and a slot antenna for bandwidth broadening. The antenna was made low profile for vehicle mounting. Simulation results produced a 800 mm (height, 0.08λ) × 3 240 mm (length, 0.32λ) dimension antenna that was ∼75% decreased in height compared to a 30 MHz broadband one wavelength loop antenna. The dimensions of the antenna were redesigned to 1/10 scale for convenient manufacturing and measurement. The redesigned 1/10 scale antenna was 80 mm (height, 0.008λ) × 324 mm (length, 0.032λ) according to the simulation and measurement results. The −10 dB bandwidth was 100:1(300 MHz to 30 GHz), so when scaled up by a factor of 10, the radio frequency band would be covered with a band of 30 MHz to 3 GHz. For the polarization sum pattern, the low frequency band showed an oval pattern, while the high frequency band showed a butterfly shaped pattern in the horizontal plane, confirming the suitability of the antenna design for RCIED jamming.
