Costa Rica is a nation with great diversity of coastal-marine ecosystems. It established a National Sea Policy made up of different principles that are integrated to achieve a iczm, which together with a legal framework seeks equitable use of coastal-marine resources. This policy promotes multidisciplinary actions for the management of natural, technical and financial resources. Its regulations have a legal framework that includes laws and agreements for adequate management of coastal zones. It has the participation of the minae, incopesca, the Ministry of Public Security, the ict, and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic. Specialized postgraduate courses in coastal management are offered and seek a complete education from basic education.
