Integrated-Hybrid Framework for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Microscopic Traffic Flow Modelling

Abstract: In this study, a novel traffic flow modeling framework is proposed considering the impact of driving system and vehicle mechanical behavior as two different units on the traffic flow. To precisely model the behavior of Connected and Autonomous (CA) vehicles, three submodels are proposed as a novel microscopic traffic flow framework, named Integrated-Hybrid (IH) model. Focusing on the realization of the car following behavior of CA vehicles, the driving system (vehicle control system) and the vehicle mechanical… Show more

“…It has also been used to analyse the car following behaviour and stability of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) [31,32]. However, it fails to capture important features of CAVs in actual traffic scenarios [33]. In addition, it has been integrated into the multi-model open-source vehicular-traffic simulator (MovSim) [34], simulation of urban mobility (SUMO) and PTV VISSIM.…”

“…Later several researchers developed the FVD model considering V2V communication to replicate car following the dynamics of CAV under different traffic scenarios [39][40][41][42][43]. Unfortunately, most of these models are developed to capture car following dynamics of AVs using only the vehicle's trajectory information.…”

“…The first microscopic traffic flow model called follow-the-leader model was developed in 1961 [10]. Recently, there are many researchers derived the microscopic model in terms of velocity or delay or both in order to create a realistic model [11][12][13][14].…”
