Integrated inventory valuation in multi-echelon production/distribution systems

Abstract: The pressure to reduce inventory has increased as competition expands, product variety grows, and capital costs increase. This investigation addresses the problem of inventory quantification and distribution within multi-echelon supply chains under market uncertainty and management flexibility. This approach is based on an optimisation model emphasising demand uncertainty and the relevant dimensions of network design as number of echelons, lead time, service level, and cost of processing activities. Overstock … Show more

“…BDA is also used to address problems within a multi-tier distribution network whereas it determines optimal inventory levels while considering demand variability, lead time delays and service levels (Wang and Lei, 2012;Guo and Li, 2014). Therefore, it would be possible for managers to have a holistic view of inventory levels before deciding on an optimal level of safety stocks (Fernandes et al, 2013;Guerrero et al, 2013). Distribution.…”

“…SCA helps to get a complete sight at inventory altitudes across the supply chain while considering the influence of inventories at any specific echelon on other echelons. Decisions associated with safety stock optimization can be taken with the help of SCA (Fernandes et al, 2013;Guerrero et al, 2013). We hypothesize as follows:…”

“…They propose the conditions under which the three forecasting techniques would be chosen by the retailer to minimize the sum of the bullwhip effect on product orders and inventory under different weightings. Fernandes et al [11] address the problem of inventory quantification and distribution within multi-echelon supply chains under market uncertainty and management flexibility. A comparison among production sites and storage facilities reveals that higher downstream overstock levels decrease upstream echelons of uncertainty exposition.…”
