Integrated microfossil biostratigraphy,Mid-Cretaceous (Albian to Saronian)

Abstract: P. Marks. Integrated Microfossil Biostratigraphy, Mid-Cretaceous (Albian to Santonian). Cretaceous Research (1984) 5, 15-27. An attempt is made to integrate biozones based on planktic Foraminifera with those on calcareous nannofossils, mainly on first order correlation. An approximate correlation with ammonite zones, magnetic events and radiometric age values, partly on first-order data, partly from the literature, is added.

“…4). Many previous studies have restricted the earliest occurrence of M. schneegansi to the late Turonian (Premoli Silva & Bolli, 1973;Premoli Silva & Boersma, 1977;Caron, 1978Caron, , 1985Salaj, 1980Salaj, , 1997Marks, 1984a;Robaszynski et al, 1984;Abdel-Kireem et al, 1995). However, Robaszynski & Caron (1995) recognized the full biostratigraphical range of this species to incorporate the mid-to late Turonian interval (see also Gebhardt, 2004, fig.…”

“…Several authors have given correlations of the resulting biostratigraphical zonation with various macrofossil zones and/or with type sections and boundaries of stages (e.g., Wonders, 1980;Bellier, 1983;Marks, 1984).…”
