Integrated Modelling of Climate Change and Urban Drainage

Abstract: Patterns of climate variables are changing under climate change resulting in increased frequency and intensity of extreme events. The implications are thus observed in existing natural and man-made systems. Man-made systems, mainly storm water management systems, are prone to it's functional failure due to recurrent events of extreme rainfall. Most urban drainage systems designed under stationary climate consideration are operating over capacity well ahead of their design period. There are several approaches a… Show more

“…In general, we can identify several reasons for shortage of freshwater accessible to society and the environment. They include: catastrophic climate changes (AR6 Climate Change 2022, n.d.; Bates et al, 2008;Gleick, 1998;Grafton et al, 2013;Letcher, 2022;OECD, 2010OECD, , 2013Shrestha et al, 2014;Stucker & Lopez-Gunn, 2017;Taylor et al, 2013;Tortajada et al, 2016;Whitehead et al, 2009), urban processes and other processes related to population growth (Eikenbery, 2003;Kumar, 2021;U. “…The study finds concentrations of cations and anions in order of Na + > Ca 2+ > Mg 2+ > K + and HCO 3 > Cl -> NO 3 -> SO 4 2-> PO 4 3-, wherein four major hydro-chemical facies (Ca-Mg-Cl, Ca-HCO 3 , Na-Cl and Na-HCO 3 types) were identified. (Sok, Choup, & Vol, 2016;Wangwacharakul et al, 2000), more severe lightning storms, floods and droughts,, and shifting rainfall patterns have been linked to climate change (Shrestha, Anal, Salam, & Van der Valk, 2016).…”
