Integrated MOF-74 Coatings on Magnesium for Corrosion Control, Cytocompatibility, and Antibacterial Properties

Abstract: Biodegradable Mg and its alloys can degrade safely in vivo without toxicity. The major bottleneck inhibiting their clinical use is the high corrosion rate, which leads to the loss of mechanical integrity prematurely and bad biocompatibility. One ideal strategy is the modification with anticorrosive and bioactive coatings. Numerous metal−organic framework (MOF) membranes show satisfactory anticorrosion performance and biocompatibility. In this study, MOF-74 membranes are prepared on an NH 4 TiOF 3 (NTiF) layer-… Show more

“…MOF-74 is a well-known 3D-MOF structure based on Zn 2+ ions connected by 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalate linkers. Recently, MOF-74-based membranes on an NH 4 TiOF 3 (NTiF) layer-modified Mg matrix were prepared for antibacterial, cytocompatibility, and corrosion control properties [37]. Corrosion protection was enhanced by outer MOF-74 membranes whose crystals and thicknesses could be adjusted for several protective effects.…”

“…As a new type of nanomaterials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) materials had been widely used due to their adjustable metal ion centers and diversity of organic ligands, as well as high specific surface area and chemical stability. Recently, metal–organic frameworks composed of two or more metals could exhibit unique properties and make up for the limitations of MOFs composed of some single metals. At present, MOF-74 was mainly used for the adsorption and separation of CO 2 , and some studies are used for antibacterial and hydrogen production. , Ni-MOF-74 and Mn-MOF-74 had attracted much attention as one of the most stable structures in the MOF-74 system. Generally speaking, MOF materials could be synthesized by solvothermal method, sonochemical synthesis, and so on .…”
