Integrated Water Management in Mountain Communities: The Case of Feutap in the Municipality of Bangangté, Cameroon

Abstract: The whole population of Feutap still collects drinking water from two protected springs, some 1 km away from this small rural agglomeration. For many generations, the only improvement has been the protection of the springs during the 1980s. The resulting high incidence of gastrointestinal infections continues to hinder the socioeconomic development of this mountain community. This dynamic wherein “poverty begets disease, and disease begets poverty” seems endless given the number of water improvement programs a… Show more

“…These findings diverge slightly from a previous study in Kenya, where respondents exhibited greater knowledge about climate change (Andersen et al, 2023). In Cameroon, communication for integrated rainfall and water management was a focal point (Nya et al, 2023).…”

“…The AA method is also expected to support the development of new Fe 0 materials with tailored properties for specific applications, such as "Fe 0 for saline wastewaters", "Fe 0 for acid mine drainage", or "Fe 0 for carbonate-rich waters". This approach will certainly support the design of Fe 0 filters for decentralized safe drinking water provision [83,87,[107][108][109][110][111][112][113][114][115][116][117][118][119][120][121] and keep the international community on track to achieve Goal 6 ('Ensure access to water and sanitation for all') of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations even for poor and vulnerable populations [122][123][124][125].…”

“…A study in Cameroon emphasized how climate change contributes to scarcity of water sources, affecting women's productivity (Fonjong and Zama 2023). Another Cameroon study noted that water scarcity is associated with diseases, perpetuating poverty (Nya et al 2023).…”

“…The voices of women are essential in the dialogue on climate-induced migration, holding valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers (Mugambiwa and Makhubele 2023;Sikiru et al 2023;Vinke et al 2022). By gaining a holistic understanding of how climate change interacts with gender norms and socioeconomic conditions, we can develop more effective and tailored strategies to support the resilience of women and their communities (Andersen et al 2023;Michael and Odeyemi 2017;Nya et al 2023). Additionally, this study contributes to a broader discourse on gender and climate change, bridging the gap between global trends and local realities (Akinbami 2021;Khan et al 2023).…”
