By acknowledging the uncertainty and unpredictability of the job search process in an unemployment setting, the present study explored the predictive strength of dispositional employability in job search behaviours. Dispositional employability has been recognized as a potentially important personal resource that promotes job opportunities. However, it has rarely been assessed in an unemployment setting to date. According to recent employability models that differentiate between distal (i.e., personal strengths) and proximal (e.g., perceived employability) determinants of behaviour on the labour market, we hypothesized that: (i) dispositional employability relates positively to job search intensity and (ii) perception of one's employment possibilities (i.e., perceived employability) serves as an explanatory mechanism of this relationship. The hypothesized structural model was tested among a heterogeneous sample of 533 unemployed persons in Croatia. The results of structural equation modelling provided support for our hypotheses: dispositional employability related positively to job search intensity via perceived employability. Accordingly, nurturing dispositional employability may be beneficial for unemployed persons as it relates positively to engagement in job search behaviour.

Highly skilled immigrants face many obstacles in transitioning their career from their home country to the United States and often face challenges in gaining recognition for their skills and credentials. By studying the specific stressors and protective factors these immigrants experience in their career transitions, career counselors can better assist this population through the process. Two phenomenological case studies were conducted to understand and describe the lived experience of highly skilled immigrants as they adapt to new careers in the United States. Four themes emerged from the interpretative phenomenological analysis: loss of community, lack of voice, frustration with U.S. education and regulatory systems, and pride in vocation. Findings suggest that career counselors should engage in advocacy for this group and promote vocational pride and community engagement. Future research should elaborate on the specific circumstances of highly skilled immigrants from diverse demographic backgrounds and professions.

This study tests and extends the career construction theory's model of adaptation and provides valuable insights into the interplay of agency and structure in career self‐management. It studies the interactive effect of career adaptability resources with intensified career demands on career crafting by examination of structural predictors for adapting responses, and the role of career adaptability as a moderator between intensified demands and career crafting responses. Using a representative sample of the German working population (N = 2000), the authors test the model with structural equation modeling. Latent structure analysis showed that each of the four career adaptabilities strengthens the relationship between intensified career demands and the career crafting responses of goal setting/networking and reflection. It suggests to focus strongly on the development of career resources in order to enable career crafting.
