Integrating Infiltration Facility to Urban Road Drainage

Abstract: It is proposed to merge an infiltration facility to the conventional road curb system. Towards this end, a Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) is developed to explore the effectiveness of the proposed component at Riveria housing estate, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. The findings show that the integration is effective in reducing peak runoff. The results indicate that a scenario of hollow infiltration trench achieves zero runoff, and a scenario of filled infiltration trench has a 43.6% reduction in runoff compared … Show more

“…Drainage is a water management method that removes excess water from an area to enable optimal functioning. Efforts to control water quality in the soil associated with salinity are also defined as drainage [10]. Floods are an event that generally occurs due to heavy rains of long duration, which increases the volume of water and accelerates the accumulation of surface runoff at ground level [11] A Detention pond is one approach of sustainable drainage systems, which has been used widely to prevent inundation or flooding [12] [13, 14, 15].…”

“…SWMM was developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (UESPA) in 1971 [6]. SWMM uses modeling with input parameters that have been recorded in field conditions [7][8][9][10][11]. Modeling using the SWMM can be built using five main environmental components: rainfall, temperature, and evaporation data; surface runoff components; subsurface groundwater components; pipe conveyance systems, channels, flow regulators, contaminant storage, and accumulation units [12][13][14][15].…”
