Integration of Aeromagnetic Interpretation and Induced Polarization Methods in Delineating Mineral Deposits and Basement Configuration within Southern Bida Basin, North-West Nigeria

Abstract: Aeromagnetic data interpretation and Induce Polarization (IP) method has been integrated and interpreted with a view of delineating magnetic minerals within some part of the Southern Bida Basin, Nigeria. Spectral analysis method was used in delineating the depth to magnetic basement and model prominent magnetic anomaly. Analysis of Induce Polarization data were used in delineating the potential fractures zones of mineralization. Visual inspection of the magnetic anomalies and first vertical derivative maps rev… Show more

“…The major lineament structural trends defined from the shaded relief map ( Figure 5) are NE-SW while the minor trends are visible along E-W and NW-SE directions. The lineament trends obtained here is in confirmation with previous studies carried out within the Bida Basin and its surrounding Basement Complex (Ikumbur et al, 2013, Obaje, et al, 2013, and Ojonugwa et al, 2018. Juxtaposing these lineaments on the geological map of the area, it depicts that the lineament orientations are predominately within the area underlain by basement rocks compared with the area covered by sedimentary basin.…”

“…Immediately after obtaining the main amplitude, the next was to obtain the gradient of the linear segments of the first and second longest wavelengths of the spectrum as discussed by previous authors (Bhattacharyya, 1966, Bhattacharyya and Leu, 1975, Okubo et al, 1985, Tanaka et al, 1999, Nwankwo and Ekine, 2010, Frashëri et al, 2011, Mandal et al, 2013, Abraham et al, 2015, Singh and Biswas, 2016, Ojonugwa et al, 2018.…”

“…Bello et al 2017, Idarraga-García & Vargaz, 2018Aliyu et al, 2018). Moreover, some publications use the wrong equations or units (Usman et al, 2018). Errors like these automatically invalidate the results obtained, since they lack physical and geological meaning.…”

“…A 2D resistivity survey was targeted at determining the lateral extents of the coal seam, resistivity values associated with the coal seam and depth to the coal seam (Ojonugwa, et al 2018). Geo-electrical resistivity surveying has improved and has become a vital and worthwhile tool in groundwater investigation, mineral exploration and exploitation, environmental and engineering geology etc.…”
