“…In 2001, Taiwan had become an official affiliate member of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) . By that time, Taiwan had established the Taiwan Biodiversity National Information Network (TaiBNET) to compiles databases for biological species and biodiversity specialists in Taiwan (Shao et al, 2007). In addition, an integrated platform and exchange mechanism had been established by digitizing all the various types of information into one database on the Internet to provide essential information for academic exchange and practical application, bringing the results of groundwork academic research into full play (NCSD, , 2011.…”

“…There are three different ways to exchange and share Taiwan biodiversity data internationally (Shao, 2006;Shao et al, 2007b). The first path is to link to GBIF directly through TaiBIF.…”

“…Furthermore, a number of international cooperative projects (e.g., GBIF data portal, Species 2000, Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL), Encyclopedia of Life (EOL), Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS), Scratchpads [ 16 ], and WikiSpecies [ 17 ]) have recently begun to link and distribute biodiversity data among countries and international organizations. A general trend in bioscience is that advanced bioinformatics analysis and link-up tools are overcoming the challenges of different database types [ 18 , 19 ]. For example, NCBI's databases contain information from molecular to species in different layers [ 20 ].…”
