Integration of Digital Factory with Smart Factory Based on Internet of Things

Abstract: Internet of things (IoT) in manufacturing can be defined as a future where every day physical objects in the shop floor, people and systems (things) are connected by the Internet to build services critical to the manufacturing. Smart factory is a way towards a factory-of-things, which is very much aligned with IoT. IoT not only deals with smart connections between physical objects but also with the interaction with different IT tools used within the digital factory. Data and information come from heterogeneous… Show more

“…Standardized mechanical, electrical and communication information is essential to enhancing interoperability [37]. In communication, semantic technologies show promise in enabling interoperability for the smart factory, and many ontologies have been developed around this issue [38]. Another crucial enabler of interoperability is a controller that can be integrated more flexibly with other systems and is generally quicker to pick up new interoperability features such as OPC UA.…”

“…In general, advances in ICTs have significantly facilitated the development and application of operations, intensity of customisation and depth of supply chain integration (Monostori et al 2016;Shariatzadeh et al 2016;Smit et al 2016). However, adaptation, compatibility, and security problems the use of IT for agile manufacturing (Davenport 1998;Gadient et al 1997;Liu et al 2013;Macke, Rulhoff, and Stjepandic 2016;Tse et al 2016).…”

“…Designing the processes with Computer-Aided-X (CAx) software and sufficient communication with the connected manufacturing systems enables more sustainable development and research environment (Helu & Hedberg, 2015). Another approach suggested the use of web semantic models as a concept to integrate information technology between IoT and PLM platforms using semantic web technology and OSCL, which uses the HTTP protocol for data transfer (Shariatzadeh, Lundholm, Lindberg, & Sivard, 2016).…”
