Integration of Radar System with GPS-Based Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) for Approach Control Separation

Abstract: The air traffic control system is a vast network of people and necessary navigational equipment that ensures the safe operation of commercial and private aircraft throughout the world. Air traffic controller service is responsible for area, approach and aerodrome control. Aircraft fatal accident data for commercial jet airplanes between 1959 and 2008 show that 36% of the accidents happen in the final approach and landing phase, possibly due to mechanical failure or human error resulting from poor communication… Show more

“…In the model, aircraft transmits different operating conditions of the flight to FDR on board the aircraft and dedicated private Google cloud architecture via satellite communications because VHF has a limited line of sight range and is not really suitable for direct communications over very long distances especially over the Atlantic ocean. The concept of NextGen, is employed where ADS-B equipped aircraft integrated with satellite sends their identification along with speed and precise vertical and horizontal positions [30]. A Geostationary Immarsat Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) already been used by airlines for data link is employed.…”

“…Controllers are responsible for the safe, expeditious, and orderly flow of air traffic in aerodromes and airspaces (Bakare, & Junaidu, 2013;Malakis et al, 2019;Mooji, & Corker, 2002;Pavlinovic, Juricic, & Antulov-Fantulin, 2017). Controllers must ensure that all aircraft, including UAVs, fly safely and without any issues in airspace.…”
