Integrative Approaches to Stress Management

Abstract: This narrative review provides an overview of the scope of psychosocial distress and stress in cancer patients and survivors and the potential negative consequences of untreated symptoms. Evidence-based interventions to treat these symptoms are reviewed, beginning with a summary of published clinical practice guidelines, followed by more detailed reviews of the specific integrative interventions with the largest empirical support: cognitive-behavioral stress management, yoga, mindfulness-based interventions, a… Show more

“…There are different strategies to cope with stressful events, including, for example, cognitive-behavioral skills training, yoga, massage, mindfulness-based interventions, but also medication [3][4][5][6]. Medications may be antidepressants or, to reduce acute stress, benzodiazepines or other GABA (Gamma aminobutyric acid)-like substances, which are known to be linked to the risk of addiction [7].…”

“…The biological stress response involves stress hormones such as nor epinephrine, epinephrine, and cortisol. Research shows that psychological stress can increase basal cortisol levels and decrease acute cortisol (Carlson et al, 2019). Research on foot re lexology on cortisol levels has been carried out, such as the (McVicar et al, 2007) study that used caterpillar techniques and (Mackereth and Booth, 2009) using the Ingham method (McVicar et al, 2007).…”
