Intellectual capital and business model: a systematic literature review to explore their linkages

Abstract: PurposeIn the last decades, business and management scholars have given great attention to intellectual capital (IC), which could seem a mature topic, having arrived at its third wave of studies. However, its intersections with the business model (BM) remain an under-investigated topic, and the authors wanted to investigate two research questions (RQs): how the literature addressing IC and BM has evolved so far in the business and management domains? What are possible future research trends of business and man… Show more

“…As suggested by Massaro et al [11], an SLR enables the study of the scientific corpus of a research field, including the scientific rigour, reliability and replicability of operations carried out by researchers. As suggested by many scholars, the methodology allows qualitative and quantitative variables to highlight the best authors, journals and keywords and combine a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis [27][28][29][30]. Despite its widespread use in business and management [16,31], the SLR is also used in the health sector based on the same philosophy through which it was originally conceived [32,33].…”

“…To answer our research question, we implemented our analysis using notable databases. Therefore, for the academic part, we used the database Scopus as one of the widely adopted from researchers due to the broader range of keywords searching (Baima, Forliano, Santoro, & Vrontis, 2020; Falagas, Pitsouni, Malietzis, & Pappas, 2007; Massaro, Dumay, & Guthrie, 2016; Secinaro, Brescia, Calandra, & Biancone, 2020). Specifically, keywords' investigation was conducted using Rosa et al (2020) contribution, and included the following research string: ‘circular economy’ AND ‘Industry 4.0’ OR ‘Additive manufacturing’ OR ‘Cloud manufacturing’ OR ‘Internet of Things’ OR ‘IOT’ OR ‘cyber‐physical system’ OR ‘Augmented reality’ OR ‘3d’ OR ‘Industrial revolution’ OR ‘fourth industrial revolution’ OR ‘Simulation’ OR ‘Smart production’ OR ‘Smart manufacturing’ OR ‘Data mining’ OR ‘Digital’ OR ‘Smart.’ The academic analysis revealed 369 published papers.…”

“…Moreover, existing research has continued to overlook the plausible simultaneous influence of green TM, DTI and LSC on staff turnover intention (Abdul et al, 2019;Bui and Chang, 2018;Mahlasela and Chinyamurindi, 2020). While the relevant literature continues to build on research from several developed economies, there is a lack of empirical evidence from emerging economies that inform how green TM, DTI and LSC may collectively act to engender environmental sustainability from a human capital development and retention perspective (Baima et al, 2020;Brougham and Haar, 2018;Gardas et al, 2019;Ogbeibu et al, 2021b;Temouri et al, 2021).…”
