Intelligent Control of the Energy Storage System for Reliable Operation of Gas-Fired Reciprocating Engine Plants in Systems of Power Supply to Industrial Facilities

Abstract: Gas-fired reciprocating engine plants (GREPs) are widely used in power supply systems of industrial facilities, which allows for ensuring the operation of electrical loads in case of accidents in the power system. Operating experience attests to the fact that during islanded operations, GREPs are shut down by process protections or protective relays in the event of severe disturbances. This leads to complete load shedding, which is accompanied by losses and damage to industrial facilities. Severe disturbances … Show more

“…Its distinctive feature is the presence of various generation systems and, hence, diverse energy flows: electrical, heat, gas, and others [11,12]. At the same time, along with traditional generation systems (electric and thermal power plants), there is wide use of renewable sources and storage systems in all energy supply channels [13][14][15]. There are also systems developed and widely used to quickly and economically convert various types of energy into each other: gas turbine plants, electric heating boilers, and others [16][17][18].…”

“…The most difficult task is to establish correlations between fluctuations in power demand and specific production processes in microgrids. This is required in order to determine the necessary amount of generation at each moment of time and methods to maintain the balance of power [109,110]. Therefore, optimal microgrid sizing is based on the results of the analysis of statistical data, the possibilities of reducing the capacity fee, ESS power and energy intensity, as well as the power flow control capabilities of the ACS.…”

“…The severity of the violation is determined by the magnitude of the residual voltage and the duration of the voltage dip. However, the document [20] neither clearly separates the areas of responsibility of the grid company and the industrial consumer in the case of voltage dips of various depths and durations, nor provides the list of measures to be taken to minimize damage [53,54].…”
