The background of this work is related to the scheduling of household appliances, taking into account variations in energy costs during the day from official Brazilian domestic tariffs: constant and white. The white tariff can reach an average price of around 17% lower than the constant, but charges twice its value at peak hours. In addition to cost reduction, we propose a methodology to reduce user discomfort due to time-shifting of controllable devices, presenting a balanced solution through the analytical analysis of a new method referred to as tariff space, derived from white tariff posts. To achieve this goal, we explore the geometric properties of the movement of devices through the tariff space (geometric locus of the load), over which we can define a limited region in which the cost of a load under the white tariff will be equal to or less than the constant tariff. As a trial for the efficiency of this new methodology, we collected some benchmarks (such as execution time and memory usage) against a classic multi-objective algorithm (hierarchical) available in the language portfolio in which the project has been executed (the Julia language). As a result, while both methodologies yield similar results, the approach presented in this article demonstrates a significant reduction in processing time and memory usage, which could lead to the future implementation of the solution in a simple, low-cost embedded system like an ARM cortex M.

The deployment of isolated microgrids has witnessed exponential growth globally, especially in the light of prevailing challenges faced by many larger power grids. However, these isolated microgrids remain separate entities, thus limiting their potential to significantly impact and improve the stability, efficiency, and reliability of the broader electrical power system. Thus, to address this gap, the concept of interconnected smart transactive microgrids (ISTMGs) has arisen, facilitating the interconnection of these isolated microgrids, each with its unique attributes aimed at enhancing the performance of the broader power grid system. Furthermore, ISTMGs are expected to create more robust and resilient energy networks that enable innovative and efficient mechanisms for energy trading and sharing between individual microgrids and the centralized power grid. This paradigm shift has sparked a surge in research aimed at developing effective ISTMG networks and mechanisms. Thus, in this paper, we present a review of the current state-of-the-art in ISTMGs with a focus on energy trading, energy management systems (EMS), and optimization techniques for effective energy management in ISTMGs. We discuss various types of trading, architectures, platforms, and stakeholders involved in ISTMGs. We proceed to elucidate the suitable applications of EMS within such ISTMG frameworks, emphasizing its utility in various domains. This includes an examination of optimization tools and methodologies for deploying EMS in ISTMGs. Subsequently, we conduct an analysis of current techniques and their constraints, and delineate prospects for future research to advance the establishment and utilization of ISTMGs.

This comprehensive review investigates the transformative potential of sensor-driven digital twin technology in enhancing healthcare delivery within smart environments. We explore the integration of smart environments with sensor technologies, digital health capabilities, and location-based services, focusing on their impacts on healthcare objectives and outcomes. This work analyzes the foundational technologies, encompassing the Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), machine learning (ML, and artificial intelligence (AI), that underpin the functionalities within smart environments. We also examine the unique characteristics of smart homes and smart hospitals, highlighting their potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery through remote patient monitoring, telemedicine, and real-time data sharing. The review presents a novel solution framework leveraging sensor-driven digital twins to address both healthcare needs and user requirements. This framework incorporates wearable health devices, AI-driven health analytics, and a proof-of-concept digital twin application. Furthermore, we explore the role of location-based services (LBS) in smart environments, emphasizing their potential to enhance personalized healthcare interventions and emergency response capabilities. By analyzing the technical advancements in sensor technologies and digital twin applications, this review contributes valuable insights to the evolving landscape of smart environments for healthcare. We identify the opportunities and challenges associated with this emerging field and highlight the need for further research to fully realize its potential to improve healthcare delivery and patient well-being.
