Intelligent-Well Technology Reduced Water Production in a Multilateral Oil Producer

Abstract: TX 75083-3836, U.S.A., fax 01-972-952-9435. AbstractExcessive water production is often associated with mature fields. The source could be from the aquifer providing reservoir energy or waterflood process used for sweep enhancement. The adverse effect on oil production and reserves requires that a remedial action should be implemented to minimize the overall impact. An effective remedial action requires the identification the source of the problem. This paper discusses the use of intelligent well completion (IW… Show more

“…The implementations of intelligent wells by operating companies have used evaluations of long-and short-term performance for single-well studies (Ramakrishna, 2007;Ajayi, 2003), multiple-well and fullfield studies (Ajayi, 2006;Ajayi, 2005;Thompson, 2000;Saputelli, 2009), comparisons of different systems (Su, 2008;Ebadi, 2006), and analyses of risks and reservoir uncertainty (Addiego-Guevara, 2008;Aggrey, 2007). A good literature review of intelligent well technology implementation was done by Gao (Gao, 2007).…”
