Intensification of CO2 absorption using MDEA-based nanofluid in a hollow fibre membrane contactor

Abstract: Porous hollow fibres made of polyvinylidene fluoride were employed as membrane contactor for carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption in a gas–liquid mode with methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) based nanofluid absorbent. Both theoretical and experimental works were carried out in which a mechanistic model was developed that considers the mass transfer of components in all subdomains of the contactor module. Also, the model considers convectional mass transfer in shell and tube subdomains with the chemical reaction as well as… Show more

“…The microconvection motion increased the diffusion coefficient of the nanofluids during mass transfer. Although there was no theoretical study on the enhanced diffusion coefficient, there were empirical formulas available to calculate the diffusion coefficient ( D n ) of CO 2 in nanofluids D normaln = D normalbf ( 1 + m 1 R e m 2 + S c m 3 + Φ m 4 ) where D bf is the diffusion coefficient of CO 2 in the base fluid, Φ is the volume fraction of nanoparticles, Sc and Re are the Schmidt number and Reynolds number of nanoparticles in Brownian motion, respectively, and m 1 , m 2 , m 3 , and m 4 are 1650, 0.039, −1.064, and 0.203, respectively …”

“…To solve PDEs of mass and momentum, COMSOL Multiphysics version 6 was installed on a 64-bit platform with an Intel(R) core (TM) i7-10510U CPU and a 16 Gigabyte RAM. The needed time for solving the PDEs and present the results was about 20 s. Moreover, with the aim of managing the material balance error during the solution of mass/momentum PDEs, PARDISO numerical solver was employed owing to its brilliant advantages like excellent memory performance and robustness 58 , 59 . The principal PDEs of mass and momentum in tube, membrane and shell sides are presented in Table 2 .…”

“…The first investigation on TRP efficiency was published in 1963 by Coppen et al [ 139 ]. In recent years, TRP demonstrated its great potential to improve the antidepressant influence of clomipramine, tricyclic antidepressants, and lithium [ 140 , 141 , 142 , 143 ]. It has been recently corroborated that focusing on the synthesis of the brain’s serotonin may increase the advancement of antidepressant drugs [ 144 ].…”
