Intensity of adoption of integrated pest management practices in Rwanda: A fractional logit approach

Abstract: The push-pull technology (PPT) is considered as an alternative integrated pest management strategy for the control of fall armyworm and stemborer, among smallholder maize farmers in sub-Sahara African to conventional pesticides. However, the extent of PPT use in Rwanda where the technology was introduced in 2017 remains largely unexplored. This paper employed a fractional logit model to assess the factors influencing the intensity of adoption of PPT among smallholder maize farmers in Gatsibo and Nyagatare dist… Show more

“…Moreover, the desire for sustainability quickly accentuated this. The accuracy of the information, the continuous monitoring, and the effective IPM documentation make possible the emergence and continuous support of good practices that can be successfully applied to the development of the agricultural field Misango et al, 2022). In principle, the adoption of IPM is done for the adequate control of pests and to reduce them and their effects to a tolerable level.…”

“…The desire for adoption is primarily emphasized by the decrease in the amounts of pesticides used after prior monitoring. The effects of pests, their presence, and plant diseases represent a serious threat to agricultural production and the resulting food security due to the agricultural sector (Misango et al, 2022;Wu et al, 2019). The IPM objective is to create a combination of actions associated with good practices to develop specific solutions for each agricultural area and culture.…”

“…In their study on the intensity of adoption of conservation agriculture by smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe [15] The fractional response model (FRM) on the other hand overcomes many limitations of established linear and non-linear econometric solutions in the study of bounded data. Studies that have estimated the intensity of adoption by use of the FRM include [16,17,18]. The fractional logit model was used to analyze the intensity of adoption of integrated pest management practices in Rwanda in [16].…”
