Intensive Care of a Weil’s Disease With Multiorgan Failure

Abstract: Leptospirosis is a commonly encountered type of zoonosis, especially in tropical regions. There is insufficient data regarding its frequency in non-tropical regions such as Turkey. Although leptospirosis presents with a mild icteric form in nearly 90% of cases, it can lead to Weils disease characterized by fever as well as fulminant hepatorenal and respiratory failure, in approximately 5 - 10% of cases. In this case report, we present a patient with Weil's disease, complicated with multiorgan failure.KeywordsW… Show more

“…A score between 20 and 25 suggests leptospirosis as a possible diagnosis and this patient showed a strong presumption of the disease with a diagnostic score of 32 similarly same recommendations are followed in the intensive case report with multiorgan failure by Turkam Togal study. 12 The presence of acute kidney injury in this case might be due to various factors like direct nephrotoxicity, hypovolemia, acute tubular necrosis, rhabdomyolysis and endotoxin associated vasoconstriction. Neurological involvement occurred on third day of hospitalisation where patient experienced involuntary jerky movements and are considered to be likely tremors due to fever.…”

This zoonosis disease is common in tropical and subtropical regions, where it significantly increases morbidity and mortality ( 1 , 2 ). Leptospiral infection is transmitted to humans by infected animals, including rodents, cats, and dogs.…”
