Purpose: To assess the reproducibility of detection of osseous and extra-osseous metastases in cancer patients using whole-body diffusion-weighted imaging with background body signal suppression (WB-DWIBS). Material and methods: A prospective study was conducted on 39 consecutive patients (21 females, 18 males; mean age 48 years) with metastases, who underwent WB-DWIBS on a 1.5-T MR scanner. Image analysis was performed independently by two blinded observers. Inter-observer agreement was assessed for the detection of osseous (spinal, appendicular) and extra-osseous (hepatic, pulmonary, nodal, and peritoneal) metastases. Results: The overall inter-observer agreement of WB-DWIBS in the detection of osseous and extra-osseous metastases was excellent (k = 0.887, agreement = 94.44%, p = 0.001). There was excellent inter-observer agreement of both observers for the detection of osseous spinal (k = 0.846, agreement = 92.3%), osseous appendicular (k = 0.898, agreement = 94.8 %), hepatic (k = 0.847, agreement = 92.3%), pulmonary (k = 0.938, agreement = 97.4%), nodal metastases (k = 0.856, agreement = 94.9%), and peritoneal metastasis (k = 0.772, agreement = 94.9%). Conclusion: We concluded that WB-DWIBS is reproducible for detection of osseous and extra-osseous metastases in cancer patients.

Aim: To assess reliability of standardized reporting system of acute appendicitis at low-dose 320-rows CT. Methods: Retrospective analysis CT of 78 patients with pathologically proven acute appendicitis. The study was performed at low-dose 320-rows CT. The image analysis was performed by 2 radiologists according to standardized reporting system of acute appendicitis. Results: There was excellent overall of inter-observer agreement of both observers for standardized reporting system of acute appendicitis ( K = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.87-0.92, P = 0.001). There was good inter-observer agreement for visualization of appendix (K = 0.78, P = 0.001), tip diameter ( K = 0.75, P = 0.001), and single wall thickness of appendix ( K =0.77, P = 0.001). There was excellent inter-observer agreement for outer to outer wall diameter ( K = 0.82 , P = 0.001), mucosal hyper-enhancement ( K =0.80, P = 0.001), appendicolith ( K = 0.86, P = 0.001), gas in appendix ( K = 0.82, P = 0.001), surrounding fat stranding ( K = 0.81, P = 0.001), focal cecal thickening ( K = 0.85, P = 0.001), peri-appendiceal air ( K = 0.87, P = 0.001), peri-appendicular fluid collection, phlegmon, or abscess ( K = 0.82, P = 0.001), and right ovary cyst ( K = 0.83, P = 0.001). Conclusion: we concluded that excellent reliability of standardized reporting system of acute appendicitis in adults using low-dose 320-rows CT.

Upregulated delta-like protein 3 (DLL3) functions as a Notch ligand and has been a target for cancer therapy. The present study assessed DLL3 expression as a tumor marker for endometrial cancer.RNA-Seq expression data and clinicopathologic records from 545 patients with endometrial cancer were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Mann–Whitney U and logistic regression tests were applied to associate the level of DLL3 expression with clinical variables from the patients. Kaplan–Meier curves and log-rank tests were performed to compare overall survival of patients stratified by different levels of DLL3 expression. Multivariate Cox regression tests were used to analyze independent predictors for endometrial cancer. DLL3 expression was upregulated in endometrial cancer tissues compared to para-carcinoma tissues (P = .0003). High DLL3 expression was associated with the age of patients (odds ratio [OR] = 1.74), advanced stages of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics system (OR = 2.9), grade III/IV (OR = 5.1), myometrial invasion (OR = 2.2), pelvic involvement (OR = 12.9), and para-aortic lymph node metastasis (OR = 9.9) (all P ≤ .001). Furthermore, upregulated DLL3 expression was also associated with a median overall survival of 112 months (HR = 1.85, confidence internal 1.202–2.846, P = .005). The multivariate analysis showed that DLL3 overexpression and advanced tumor stages, grades, and lymph node metastases were all independent prognostic predictors for endometrial cancer.The DLL3 expression could be a potential and novel tumor marker for early diagnosis and an independent predictor of poor survival for patients with endometrial cancer.
