Show more

“…Independent vs. interdependent self-construal was measured with the German version (Hannover et al, 2000) of the interdependent/independent self-construal scale (SCS; Singelis, 1994; sample items: Independent: “I'd rather say “no” directly than risk being misunderstood”; interdependent: “I have respect for the authority figures with whom I interact”). The items were answered on 7-point rating scales ranging from 1 = strongly disagree to 7 = strongly agree .…”

“…Independent/interdependent self-construal. Self-construal was assessed with 20 items taken from a translated self-construal scale (Hannover et al, 2000). This scale assesses independent and interdependent self-construal with 10 items each (interdependent, e.g., 'My happiness depends on the happiness of those around me' a ¼ .73, 1 independent, e.g., 'I am comfortable with being singled out for praise or rewards', a ¼ .71) and is adapted from the original scale by Singelis (1994).…”

“…Global self-construal was assessed with the Self-Construal Scale (SCS; Singelis, 1994), which captures individual differences in independent and interdependent self-construals. The German version of the SCS was validated by Hannover, Kühnen, and Birkner (2000). Participants rated how much they agreed with 12 independence statements and 12 interdependence statements on 7-point scales with anchors of strongly disagree (1) and strongly agree (7).…”
