“…The situation differs slightly for the (TMTTF) 2 PF 6 salts considered here. The insulating gap is actually relatively small [22,27] and the spins weakly localized [1], so that the maximum in susceptibility is pushed above room temperature [7,8] and so will be the maximum of the elastic softening. Thus the monotonic decay of spin susceptibility appears consistent with the regular increase of sound velocity with decreasing temperature below 140 K (see Fig.…”

“…The sulfur series of quasi-one-dimensional (1D) organic compounds (TMTTF) 2 X with the centro-symmetrical anions X = PF 6 , AsF 6 , SbF 6 ... are Mott insulators which develop a charge ordered (CO) state [1][2][3] that is followed at lower temperature by either an antiferromagnetic (AF) Néel or a lattice distorted spin-Peierls (SP) phase depending on the pressure applied, anion X substitution, and to some degree the deuteration of the methyl groups. In low pressure conditions, these (TMTTF) 2 X salts stand out as model low-dimensional systems to study the competition between spin, charge, and lattice degrees of freedom.…”

“…Deconfinement transitions are investigated in organics [42,45] but the inter-chain hopping also clearly plays a crucial role in systems such as purple bronze [5]. Both these systems still have a poorly understood superconducting phase in the higher-dimensional regime.…”

“…Especially in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) systems, various types of phase transitions have been found experimentally, triggering numerous theoretical works [3]. Among the typical examples are families of TM 2 X [4,5] and DCNQI 2 X [6], whose electronic structures are Q1D because of the stacking nature of the planar TM/DCNQI molecules and anisotropic shape of molecular orbital (MO). TM representing TMTSF (tetramethyltetraselenafulvalene) or TMTTF (tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene) molecules form crystals with different monovalent anions X − , then a three quarter-filled HOMO band of TM molecule is realized, i.e., quarter-filled in terms of holes; on the other hand in the DCNQI (N, N ′ -dicyanoquinonediimine) salts, when their counterparts are monovalent cations X + such as Ag and Li, a quarter-filled LUMO band of DCNQI is realized.…”
