Interaction correction to conductivity of AlxGa1xAs/GaAs double quantum well heterostructures near the balance

Abstract: The electron-electron interaction quantum correction to the conductivity of the gated double well Al x Ga 1−x As/GaAs structures is investigated experimentally. The analysis of the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the conductivity tensor allows us to obtain reliably the diffusion part of the interaction correction for the regimes when the structure is balanced (i.e., for equal electron concentrations in the wells) and when only one quantum well is occupied. The surprising result is that the intera… Show more

“…81 , one can expect strong change in temperature dependence of resistivity in the case of transfer from single to two valley situation. However, recent experiments 103,104 in double quantum well heterostructures do not demonstrate significant difference in temperature dependence of resistivity during exhaustion of one of quantum wells. The theory presented in this pa-per allows us to explain this unexpected behavior of the resistivity measured in Refs.…”

“…In another recent paper, 36 two of us were involved in the theoretical investigation of inter-and intrawell interaction effects in double quantum well heterostructures studied experimentally in Ref. 37. Let us point out key differences between the present paper and that work.…”

“…We are not aware of any systematic experimental studies of the effect of magnetic impurities on the Altshuler-Aronov correction to the conductivity in two-dimensional electron systems. In general, clear separation of the interference and interaction corrections is a difficult experimental problem (see for example, recent papers [32][33][34]). The effects described in the present paper obviously complicate this formidable task.…”
