“…Complex inorganic oxides materials (e.g., ceramics, and glass fibers) were tried to modify separators for Li–S cells. Effective ion separators were demonstrated by coating montmorillonite on the surface of separators . Glassy fiber was added between the cathode and microporous separator in a Li–S battery, which delivered more than 500 mA h g −1 (60% retention) even after 500 cycles at a 2C rate.…”

“…Furthermore, MnO in the composite separator may contribute to the electrocatalytic reduction of S species, which further promotes its battery performance. MMT coatings can also improve the barrier properties of the polyolefin separators because of the electrostatic repulsion between MMT and polysulfides in the electrolyte (Table entry 14) …”

“…1 LIBs are hitting a wall due to the restricted theoretical capacity of typical transition metal oxides (e.g., LiNi 1-x-y Co x Mn y O 2 ) and the soaring cost of the raw materials. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] These include the incorporation of sulfur in carbon materials and barrier layers (e.g., carbon interlayers and protective layers for preventing the diffusion of polysulfides). 3 Despite recent advances, the electrochemical performances of Li S batteries, such as the capacity, cycle life, and their manufacturing processes, urgently need to be improved for successful commercialization.…”
