“…thermo-inhibition was overcome after treatment with tDZ in line with Berrie et al (3) who indicated that thermoinhibition of celery seeds is associated with the accumulation of a germination inhibitor which interacts with cytokinins and could be overcome by treatment with red light or aplication of cytokinins or giberellins. Sinska (18) also found that BA and GA 3 counteracted the inhibitory effect of Aminooxy acetic acid (AoA) and aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) on embryo germination. he further emphasised that the effect of ethylene on the removal of embryonal dormancy is related to the action of BA but not GA 3 .…”

“…Ethylene at 1.25 μL L -1 allows 100% germination of dormant Arabidopsis seeds incubated at 25°C in darkness, when dormant sunflower seeds required 12.5 μL L -1 to fully germinate at 15°C. Breaking of dormancy during chilling of apple seeds, or during dry storage of sunflower achenes, results in an increasing sensitivity to ethylene (Sinska, 1989; Corbineau and Côme, 2003). In Stylosanthes humilis , non-dormant seeds are at least 50-fold more sensitive to ethylene than freshly harvested dormant ones (Ribeiro and Barros, 2006).…”

“…It has been established that spermine counteracts the production of ethylene in apple seeds (Sińska and Lewandowska 1991). Gibberellin and cytokinin treatments stimulated ethylene production in cultured isolated embryos, and the inhibition of embryo germination by inhibitors of ethylene synthesis (aminoxyacetic acid and aminoethoxyvinylglycine) was counteracted by GA 3 and CK (Sińska 1989). Ethylene synthesis is also stimulated by nitric oxide treatment of embryos, and inhibitors of ethylene synthesis reversed the NO-induced stimulation of germination (Gniazdowska et al 2007).…”
